Inclusive Leadership Workshop

Youth and/or youth service providers will build a shared understanding of leadership and identify expectations and values around what it means to be a leader. Anyone can be a leader and everyone has skills that can be developed and enhanced. Inclusive leadership means being mindful that we all come with different experiences and perspectives.

Anti-Oppression

Participants create a shared understanding of the words tossed around when speaking about diversity. Through group discussions and experiential learning, participants will examine individual and systemic barriers, expectations and norms. Participants apply other lenses to broaden their perspectives about accessibility, inclusion, power and privilege.

Teambuilding

Increase the cohesiveness and effectiveness of your group by applying peer support principals: sharing power, learning from each other and valuing others’ experiences.

Safety & Boundaries for Group Facilitators

Facilitators learn how to create safe places and clear boundaries for themselves and group members. Look at how to provide support while maintaining healthy relationships.

Group Development

Explore Tuckmann’s five stages of group development and learn how group dynamics change in the different developmental stages. Participants also explore how the ebb and flow of new members, new ideas and transitions impact group dynamics.

Power Dynamics

Workshop participants examine principles of peer support within an anti-oppression framework and look at systemic power imbalances. Participants develop a basic understanding of how these power dynamics play out within peer-led groups.

Icebreakers & Energizers

Need for people to get to know each other and inject some energy after lunch. Share new and fun activities that contribute to your learning objectives that will also loosen people up and keep enthusiasm levels high!

Group Problem Solving and Decision-Making

Learn basic problem solving skills and group decision making techniques for inclusive participatory groups. Explore consensus and conventional decision making in peer-led groups.

Engaging Youth in Decision-Making

In this workshop, participants examine ways to include young people in decision-making processes, create organization-specific youth friendly checklists, and learn tips and tools for setting up youth friendly spaces. Participants also learn about creating equal space in decision-making and how to level power dynamics.

Conflict & Communication

Participants explore various styles of conflict, the impact on communication, conflict resolution theory, and strategies to minimize conflict within groups. The workshop addresses power imbalances common to peer-led groups, and the need for clear boundaries.

Community Mobilization & Advocacy

Community – An exploratory workshop about best practices in community mobilization, development and advocacy. The workshop offers tips and tools for engaging communities to mobilize and advocate for themselves. Participants also learn the basics of advocating as an ally. [...]

Communications Basics for Peer-Led Groups

Workshop participants explore and learn the basic concepts behind the power of stories in peer-led groups. Participants learn listening and assertive messaging skills, the foundation of communication for sharing stories in peer-led groups.

Organizing Peer Support Groups

A hands-on experiential workshop focused on the basics of setting up and maintaining a peer support group. Participants can apply this learning to their own health or community project. If you do not know where to start or if your group is having difficulties figuring out what to do next, this workshop could be for you.
